Wheel of Fortune Symbols are a wheel turning clockwise with rising/falling figures or beasts on it; also a good many Hebrew letters and alchemical symbols, with a sphinx perched atop the wheel.
Wheel of Fortune Story
The Fool represents all of mankind on their journey through life.
From out of hiding comes the Fool, into the sunlight, as if being pulled up from some low, dark point on a wheel. It is time for a change. Staff in hand, he heads back out into the world, expecting nothing. But, strangely, things seem to happen to him as the hours go by, good things.
Wandering by a water wheel a woman offers him a drink in a golden chalice, and then urges him to keep the cup; as he wanders by a windmill, he stops to watch a young man swinging a sword; when he expresses his admiration of the weapon, the young man presses it into his hand, insisting that he take it.
When finally he comes upon a rich merchant sitting in a wagon; reaching out right over one of the wheels, the man hands him a bag of money.
"I decided to give this to the tenth person who walked past me today," explains the Merchant, "You're the tenth." The Fool hardly thought he could still be surprised, but he is. It is as if everything good that he ever did in his life is being paid back to him, three-fold. All luck this day is his.
Wheel of Fortune Meaning
The Fools journey has taken him to a pint of completeness as well as the rise and fall of fortunes and the message that what goes around comes around.
The Wheel of Fortune indicates abundance, happiness, elevation, or luck; a change that just happens, and brings with it great joy. It is a point of completion on the more physical plane of this journey. Libra, represented by Justice, is on the horizon; this sign is the beginning of the opening up to the spiritual realm rather than existing on the mundane physical level of awareness on the journey; a waking up in the dream we call the life journey.
This is a graduation point of sorts. Throughout your journey you are counseled to take control and make good choices. However, sometimes you just get lucky. Sometimes things happen to you over which you have no control, and you rise or fall on that turn of the wheel.
This is about how we sometimes find ourselves soaring up or down on life's Ferris wheel. The Wheel can mean movement, change or evolution, and in that respect it can be about how we all change positions, some of us rising, some of us falling and some dropping to a nadir, some reaching a zenith.
Most of the time, however, this card suggests that such changes will bring with them good fortune. The person you're reading for is going to get that money, that job, that promotion, that marriage proposal, that break they've been waiting for. Call it karmic payback for all the good things you've done in life - destiny or just luck - but whatever lotteries are out there, large or small, they've just won one.
Let's face it: there are a lot of bad psychics out there. Or more accurately, a lot of bad people masquerading as psychics.
There are those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society by either failing to tell them the truth (after all, they make a lot more money feeding into people's fantasies), or telling them outright lies for the exact same reason.
The word "Psychic" comes from the Greek work psychikos and means "of the mind" or "of the psyche." It does not refer to mind-reading or fortune telling or similar mind-blowing parlor tricks.
Unfortunately these are popular misconceptions, based on media mockery and the unscrupulous practices of some who use them to make a quick buck.
Psychic readings can be tremendously valuable, provided that you approach them with both an open mind and a healthy sense of logic.
Your session should involve some give and take, and will suffer when either of these falls out of balance. If your psychic asks too many questions, you're likely to question whether the information you're provided is "real" or is just a natural assumption based on what you've already revealed. But if on the other hand you're too closed-off to provide feedback for the information you're receiving, your psychic may not be able to tap into the areas of your psyche that are necessary to inform a good reading.
Think of the connection you're developing with your reader as a conduit for psychic information. If there are breaks or disruptions in this conduit, the connection becomes short-circuited, causing the information that comes through to be distorted or incomplete. There is some danger of sabotaging your own connection (through fear, mistrust or skepticism), so while you do want to approach your session with an objective mind, you still want to be open enough to allow for the best possible connection.
Don't be put off my psychics who rely on "tools." The psychic realm contains a vast pool of collective knowledge which is accessed in many ways. Just as there are many different spokes that lead to the same hub, so are there many different avenues with which to tap into the psyche realm. A psychic who does not use tools (cards, charts, numbers, palms, tea-leaves, or whatever) isn't automatically better.
Just as there are guidelines for getting a good psychic reading, there are things to avoid so that you don't end up getting a bad one. "Bad" can mean inaccurate and that's not always avoidable. But there's another kind of bad out there - as in duplicitous, unscrupulous and unethical.
Unfortunately, you may run into a lot of that. But the following are some common scams to watch out for - particularly with on-line readings - so that both your emotional well-being and your hard-earned money are preserved:
1. Your psychic knows things about you he or she couldn't possibly know, even as a gifted reader. Examples include names, locations, exact dates and so on. If your psychic seemingly "knows" these things when you've barely said hello, ask yourself if you've shared this information with other readers in other sessions. In this day of computer technology, unscrupulous psychics have been known to share information or even complete transcripts. If you suspect this is the case with your reader, ask him or her about something you've not shared with another reader.
2. Your psychic tries to sell you a spell or "healing" to remove negative energy. This is one of the most common scams and is unfortunately very profitable because clients are led to believe their psychic has special powers. Your psychic cannot remove negative energy for you; he or she can (and should) only guide you in re-empowering yourself.
3. Your psychic takes extra time at the onset of a session to "meditate." While it's reasonable to assume that your psychic may need time to tune in or to work with his or her tools or guides, be wary of those who need several minutes (especially "on the clock"). This can be an indication that your psychic is looking up your personal information or obtaining a transcript from a previous session with another psychic.
4. Your psychic uses blanket statements that may apply to your situation but can also apply to countless others. Although it's important to see your session as a two-way street (meaning that you need to still approach it with an open mind and heart), your psychic should be able pin-point certain things that apply directly to your specific query.
5. Your psychic promotes or fosters dependency. He or she asks you to check back daily, to get frequent "healings," or requires you to purchase more and more updated services. Another common scam to watch out for is the unsolicited email about "important information" your psychic needs to relay to you. Ask yourself, if it's that important, or if your psychic truly has your best interests at heart, why not just tell you in the original email?
6. Your psychic uses bait and switch tactics such as offering a free spell - only to require more costly "tools and materials" once the original spell-work fails to produce results.
7. Your psychic makes claims that are not only unverifiable but are designed to shroud them in an air of mystery (in order to entice you into purchasing their services). No legitimate psychic needs to use gimmicks or to make outrageous assertions. They're not only usually false but are almost always completely unrelated to skill-levels.
8. Your psychic threatens you or leaves you feeling afraid for your own safety. This is usually related to assertions about spells, curses, black magic, voodoo and so forth. Remember that no one can take your power from you or cause harm to come to you psychically. And they can't cause harm to your loved ones either.
9. Your psychic portrays him or herself to have special powers that can make or break your situation, or relieve you from an ominous fate. This is extortion. It's not real. No one has any special powers over you or your loved ones. And the only thing you will be relieved of in this scenario is your hard-earned money.
10. Your psychic hounds you for ratings or offers some incentive for rating well. This is called ratings manipulation and speaks more of your psychic's desire to attract more clients than it does of his or her interest in your situation.
A few words about ratings: Most psychics appreciate feedback after a session, as it validates the experience for both the reader and for potential clients looking for someone to put their faith into.
Even negative feedback can be helpful if it's respectfully delivered. Unfortunately this is rarely the case. Good psychics are often rewarded with bad feedback for simply telling the truth, or for painting a less-than glowing outcome, while "bad" psychics are given rave reviews for feeding into a client's hopes and wishes - even when those hopes and wishes are not based in reality.
In this respect you can't always trust that the bad ratings are any more legitimate than the good ones. But there are some ways to tell.
Look for patterns first of all. Are the negative ratings few and far between or are there more negative than positive ratings? Are the negative ratings long-winded rants that smack of shooting the messenger? This is often a sure sign that they were composed in anger and posted specifically to try to shame or punish the psychic. Are the most current ratings similar to the earliest ratings? This is an important consideration. Reading a psychic's earliest ratings can tell you whether he or she has changed names multiple times (to hide from internet complaints) or changed genders, or whether the account is even owned by the same psychic who started it. All of these are signs of questionable ethics and should give you at least pause for consideration.
If you're unsure of the validity of psychic your reading, consider stepping back and giving it time to unfold. Most sites allow clients to leave ratings at a later date, usually up to 30-days. Don't bother leaving a partial rating ("4 stars now and will come back and add another if the prediction comes to pass!"). This is misinformation: once a rating is left you cannot go back and change it at a later date. It's also a dead giveaway that you've been getting too many psychic readings and need to just find one or two that you're comfortable with.
Ratings are optional. You don't have to leave them. But if you do, consider that there are many components of a psychic reading other than just "predictions." The psychic's insights, guidance, ability to pick up on past events and nuances, and the offering of options that can help guide you toward the outcome you're looking for should also all play a part. If you never ever ever leave a 5-star rating unless someone virtually "knocks your socks off," consider that your expectations may be more in line with the carnival or gypsy fortune telling schemes than with what legitimate psychic readings actually entail.
Psychic readings really are a two-way street. You really do participate in the outcome of every single situation in your life (both good and bad.) If you're lucky enough to find a psychic who both ascribes to these principles and empowers you to find your own inner truths, you will know that you're in very good hands.
0 - The number 0 is one of the most significant numbers, but when it comes to roulette it’s the number that gives the house the edge so it’s not a lucky number for us, it’s a lucky number for casino owners.
1 - They say that one is the loneliest number, and that rings true even on a roulette table as the number 1 is a part of the french orphans bet. This number can represent strength. It can also represent new beginnings, which are more than welcome after a streak of bad luck.
2 - The number 2 is all about balance. According to the Pythagoreans, the number 2 is the most unlucky number, in fact they declared the second day of each month to represent the god of the underworld, Hades. In the Far East, however, they consider the number 2 to be very lucky.
So - how’s that for balance?
3 - They say that the 3rd time’s the charm, which isn’t always necessarily true while you’re at the roulette table but we’ll take any help we can get, right?
4 - Remember the Pythagoreans who thought that the number 2 was evil and unlucky? They also believed the number 4 to be a perfect number. It represents many things such as the four seasons, the four directions on a compass, the four winds and the four elements (Earth, Wind, Fire and Air.) The Irish believe in the luck of a 4 leaf clover. Have you ever found a four leaf clover on your way to a roulette table? Me neither.
5 - According to mystical numerology, the number 5 carries with it an aura of uncertainty. It’s very rare to find any certainties in life, especially in a casino, so perhaps this characteristic is true of all numbers on the roulette table.
6 - Some believe that six is a symbol of luck, but what happens when you have the number 6 three times in a row? We’ll talk more about the significance of this at the end of the article.
7 - There are seven colors in the rainbow, but just three on a roulette table. Red, black and green. Seven is often refereed to as being the luckiest number.
8 - In Asia, 8 is a lucky number for several reasons. First of all, the number 8 looks like the infinity symbol which is of great significance to Asian cultures, and also the way it is pronounced in Chinese sounds similar to the word for “wealth” or “prosperity.” I’ll take wealth and prosperity over good luck any day of the week.
9 - Known as the number of magic, heaven and the Creator. 9 is also the amount of lives that a cat has. In Japanese, the number 9 sounds similar to the word for “pain”, which is a contrast to the Chinese number 8 which we just learned about.
10 - They call it a perfect 10. In Sikhism, there were 10 gurus so this is a very significant number to them. In the Bible, Egypt was cursed by 10 plagues. One thing that’s becoming clear as we explore all of the double meanings that these numbers have is that it really just depends on how you look at things.
11 - The number 11 has been considered to be a number which represents internal conflict. Another fitting feeling that we’ve all probably experienced while at the roulette table, trying to figure out what our lucky numbers for the day will be.
12 - The number 12 is very significant across many cultures historically. There are 12 months in a year, thus 12 signs for the zodiac calendar but if you’re into Tаrоt cards you will know that 12 is the number of the hanged man. Uh-oh!
13 - Just as seven is lucky, 13 is often considered to be it’s counterpart as an unlucky number. Western superstitions dictate that to dine with 13 people at a table is unlucky, perhaps in reference to the Last Supper.
14 - We’ve already looked at a couple of words who’s pronunciation in Chinese and Japanese sound like other words, but try this one on for size. In Chinese culture this is an unlucky number because “one” “four”, when said, sounds just the words that mean “want to die.” Sorry for being a little morbid, we’re just the messengers.
15 - This number has some meaning for anybody who believes in equality amongst all people. Susan B. Anthony fought her entire life for women’s rights, and her birthday was on the 15th day of February. We’re not really sure what her lucky numbers were, or if she was even a fan of roulette, but thanks to her efforts there’s a little girl out there somewhere today who’s spinning a roulette wheel for the first time and she’s not going to let anybody hold her back from her dreams! Isn’t that sweet?
16 - It was the 16th amendment to the US constitution that made it lawful for the government to collect taxes from us, so this one is certainly a lucky number for a lot of people sitting in public office, don’t you think?
17 - In Tarot, the 17th card is the card of the stars and it represents hope. You know, like “Boy, I really hope this Voisins bet pays off.”
18 - Eighteen is the legal voting age! In many Canadian provinces, it’s also the legal drinking age and thus the age at which you can finally enter a casino to put your lucky numbers and number meanings to the test for real.
19 - According to the Qur'an, 19 is the number of angels which are guarding Hell. On the other hand, it’s also the title of the debut album from the beautiful songstress Adele, who’s voice has captivated millions worldwide. In Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, 19 is a mysterious number. Finally, it’s the last year that one is a teenager, still so young and ready to grab life by the horns. A great candidate to be a lucky number, if you don’t mind the whole 19 angels guarding hell thing, that is.
20 - A group of 20 of something is called a “score”, and scoring is what we’re all looking to do when we sit down at the roulette table so the number 20 gets our stamp of approval when it comes to choosing a lucky number!
21 - This is the drinking age across most of the United States of America. Yee-haw! 21 grams is the weight of the soul, according to some research that is generally considered to be absolutely meaningless and without merit - so.. there’s that too.
22 - There’s a Jay-Z song in which he rhymes the words “two”, “too” and “to” 22 times. If hearing Jay-Z say two a bunch of times makes you feel lucky, look no further than 22 as your ultimate luckiest number.
23 - The 23 Enigma is a belief that most events that happen are somehow connected to the number 23. Perhaps you have heard of the Jim Carrey movie called The Number 23 that deals with a man who becomes obsessed. If so, then you can’t you haven’t been warned about obsessing over this number!
24 - There are twenty four hours in a day, but they seem to pass a lot faster when you’re on a winning (or losing) streak. I wonder why that is?
25 - The Book of Revelation said that there were 25 thrones.
26 - There are 26 red cards and 26 black cards in a regular deck of cards. Red and black, sound familiar? Some people will actually use a deck of cards to help them choose which color to wager on in roulette.
27 - European roulette is a popular version of the game that features a single zero, rather than a double zero. Why does this matter? There are 27 countries in the European union, so could this number be lucky for someone who’s playing European roulette?
28 - The atomic mass of silicon is 28. We’ve all seen our share of silicon sitting around the roulette tables, especially in Las Vegas, and it’s often there as a form of good luck charm it seems, so take from that what you will!
29 - Tom Waits sings songs about people who are down on their luck, and just so happens to have a song called “$29.00”.
30 - Thirty minutes, half an hour, the length of the average mind-numbing sitcom and also the amount of silver ounces that it took to convince Judas to betray Jesus in the Bible. It’s up to you to decide if this number will betray you, or lead you to silver and gold.
31 - This is a lucky number for musicians because there are 31 triads in music theory. It’s music to the ears to hear that roulette ball drop into the right slot, that’s for sure.
32 - Here’s another one for the music fans. In his lifetime, Beethoven completed exactly 32 sonnets for piano.
33 - It’s said that Alexander The Great could have died at the age of 33. That certainly makes this a lucky number if you were one of his enemies.
34 - The number 34 has various significances across cultures, generally seen as a lucky number since 3+4=7.
35 - 35mm film is popular both for motion pictures as well as for photography. It’s also the former Jersey number of retired Chicago Blackhawk’s great Tony Esposito. If you’re under the age of 35 and you want to be President of the United States of America, you’re out of luck since it’s the minimum age that one must be to run for President.
36 - The 36 Views of Mount Fuji are a famous collection of paintings by a Japanese artist named Katsushika Hokusai. It’s also, of course, the highest number on the roulette table and one of either 37 or 38 total numbers when you include the zero or the double zero, depending on which style of Roulette wheel you’re playing on. The American wheel has two zeros, whereas the European roulette wheel has but one.
The Devil’s Game
We’ve seen that a lot of numbers have their own spiritual significance in numerous religions and faiths, but why is roulette nicknamed “The Devil’s Game”? Well, we mentioned that the number 666 had some significance much earlier on in our list, and the reason that this relates to roulette is quite simple. If you add up all of the numbers on the roulette board, you’re left with… You guessed it… 666, the Number of the Beast. Sometimes, however, you’ve just got to put on your pretty shoes and dance with the devil.
What Are Your Lucky Numbers?
Have any of these tidbits changed your lucky numbers? Knowing number meanings can be a fun exercise, but it’s important to remember that the roulette table is random and there’s just as much of a chance of the roulette ball landing in any given number’s slot as it has of landing on any other number. Unless, of course, you decide to believe in some of the superstitions and facts that we’ve laid out in this article, of course, in which case anything’s possible!
I used to begin my day by pressing the snooze button about four times, scrolling through Instagram and email for a few minutes, dragging myself to the shower, smearing some makeup on my face and running out the door without breakfast. While it might have gotten me out the door in a timely manner, it did nothing for my mental well-being!
Recently I started to begin my day in a more mindful way. I’ve noticed that when I take time to center myself in the morning, that calm energy reverberates throughout the rest of my day. Morning self-care practices help us stay more calm, centered and focused. In turn, this helps us to be more efficient, effective and creative. Commit to at least one of the below rituals for thirty days and see if your mornings aren’t completely transformed.
Below are 5 simple self-care rituals that you can easily integrate into your morning routine:
1. Intention Setting. Before I get out of bed or check my phone in the morning, I like to set an intention. “Intention setting” is different from goal setting. An intention is an expression of our soul’s desire for that day. It could be something like: “Allow me to accept what life brings to me with equanimity and grace,” “Allow me to make the time to be creative today” or “Provide me the space to take life less seriously today.”
2. Meditation. I’ve found nothing more effective to start my day off on a positive note than the practice of meditation. Meditation also has a cumulative effect: the more often you practice, the greater the results. A daily meditation practice has helped me cultivate inner-peace and has given me more access to my creativity.
3. Gratitude. A gratitude list is a great way to both start and end your day. Making the time to jot down three things that you’re grateful for every morning is a quick and easy way to connect with your higher self. There is even a journal specifically formatted for writing daily gratitude lists. It’s called The Five Minute Journal and I highly recommend it if you’re someone who would like to start a gratitude journal but have never done so before.
4. Affirmation cards. I am a huge fan of affirmation cards. Many “self-help gurus” make them, but my favorites are Louise Hay’s Power Thought Cards. Every morning, after my meditation, I like to hold these cards in my hands and ask that I be guided to pick a card that will serve me today. I then close my eyes and shuffle the cards until I feel moved to stop. I pick one out of the deck, open my eyes and read the card. One of things that I like most about these cards is that unlike Tаrоt Cards, all of the cards in this deck are positive and inspirational.
5. Mindful Eating. Many of us don’t take the time in the morning to sit down for five to ten minutes and simply eat our breakfast. And even if we do, it’s often in front of the computer or our smartphone. It’s a gift to your body and mind to eat mindfully and simply focus on the action of chewing before getting caught up in the daily rat race. We place a huge value on multi-tasking in our culture, but there are enormous mental benefits to single-tasting.
While you often can’t control the events in your life, you can help yourself approach your day with some self-care. If we start our day mindfully, we have a much better chance of staying centered no matter what the day brings.
